The American tourist magazine Condè Nast has published a ranking placing Sicily in third place among the most beautiful islands in the world. It was the result of research by the publishing house conducted among its readers asking them which island they preferred to spend their holidays on. The third place is a very precious position considering the world touristic panorama.
In fact, in the first place we find "The Maldives", in second place "The Greek Islands" and then Sicily, followed by the Balearic Islands, Seychelles, Capri, Barbados, Mauritius, Malta.
Many are the characteristics of the island that are appreciated, the natural and landscape beauties, from the sea to the mountains, the millennial history that for each century has left us the signs of art and culture, cuisine with all flavors, colors and perfumes of the products, and then an authentic charm that is intertwined with stories, myths, legends and traditions.
All these qualities together with the central position of the island in the Mediterranean create a strong tourist attraction from all over the world. In 2018 the 15 million admissions reached a real tourist boom.
Sicily is not only an island but also a continent that contains and preserves history from the ancient Greeks to the Romans, from the Saracens to the Normans. The tourist, visitor who chooses Sicily is offered an infinite number of opportunities to live the holiday according to their needs and passions.
The offer is very wide, you can choose from the most mundane locations such as Taormina, Giardini Naxos, Cefalù, the Aeolian Islands with its seven islands, the Egadi islands, with luxury hotels and resorts, or less frequented but very suggestive locations.
Among these are the 19 most beautiful villages in Italy in Sicily. They are small towns scattered in all the provinces of Sicily awarded with this title for their beauty, culture, history, monuments, churches and above all the charm of the ancient. Among these are Erice, Salemi, Palazzolo Acreide, Sperlinga, Novara di Sicilia, Castelmola, Montalbano Elicona. What about cities like Palermo, Catania, Syracuse, Trapani, Agrigento, Messina, the Val di Noto where history, culture, art and traditions meet in every square and every street.
Our typically Mediterranean hospitality also deserves a special note, as well as offering our oldest and most traditional dishes, perhaps revised with products made from ancient recipes, it presents itself with ways and forms that distinguish us. Surely every visitor who arrives in Sicily finds what he is looking for and wants.
Beauty is cultivated in Sicily.
